About this deal

Novitiates don’t just have Acts of Faith, they get some pretty good ploys as well. Acts of Faith mean that you won’t be spending your CPs on rerolls, and this gives you more CPs to spend on ploys that tend to do from decent to excellent. Strategic Ploys

Faith points are a great source of additional plots for Novitiates, and can be used to swing critical combats or defence rolls to either win or keep your models alive. Tac Ops

Novitate Sororitas Kill Teams

On the whole, the current Kill Team meta is very healthy, with solid balance that leads to 13-15 out of 21 factions currently showing competitive strength. The Tier List

The designers behind Kill Team keep a close eye on how the special operatives of the 41st Millennium are getting on, ensuring that the game stays balanced and fun for all players. With this in mind, they’ve been working hard on the latest Balance Dataslate .

Diving Into the Events

The Sister Superior wears full Adepta Sororitas power armour and can wield a boltgun – the only member of the squad to have that honour. She has a range of wargear available to her (and, as you’ll see from her sprue, some fantastic hats), while her Lead by Example special rule lets her activate another Novitiate if she does something cool, like incapacitate an enemy. Burning Wrath– This upgrades a Purgatus’s flamer to 3/4 damage and Inferno 2 for the turn. If you can Torrent onto multiple enemies then the additional damage output is worth it, and you’re putting two Inferno counters on each target as well. Acts of Faith work like CP, with their own little list of ploys that they can be spent on. You get three at the start of each turn, and can save them, but in a four turn game you get twelve points to spend. However there are ways to boost the number of faith points you have, through the Pronatus or the Glorious Martyrdom tactical ploy or some of the equipment choices.

Novitiates still remain as one of the best teams in the game who have a plethora of effective special abilities. At the same time they have a high skill threshold as they are not forgiving towards players who use them carelessly. Acts of Faith will save you through the odd automatic critical hit or save, but they will not rescue you from poor placement/tactics in the same way Hardy or other in-built bonuses will do for other teams. Reconsecrate Ground – A strong choice. Depending on the layout this allows you to choose an objective marker that is firmly within your territory, and all you need to do is then hold it during two different Turning Points as long as one of them is the last Turning Point. Additionally, you can combine it with Tac Ops such as Recover Item or Seize Ground to create a particularly valuable area of the board that your opponent can’t afford to ignore. This last part can make this a risky choice simply because if you are losing the battle you might find yourself pushed out of the points game entirely. A Intercessors and Imperial Navy both make strong showings, but we have six more factions represented here: Blooded, Veteran Guardsmen, Novitiates, Hunter Clade, Corsair Voidscarred, and Gellerpox. Another good mix to consider. Unflinching determination means Novitiate models within three inches and visible can reroll a defence dice when they get shot at.At the beginning of the Firefight phase one operative within ⬤ of the center of each objective may make either a free Fight or Shoot action. This one is just freaking bonkers, and honestly I am surprised you don’t hear more about it. With the right operative parked on an objective this ploy has the potential to completely swing a battle, and is surely something your opponent will need to keep in their mind if you have 2 CP in your points pool. A+ Tactical Ploys And I can’t leave without leaving my own tier list here based on my absolute opinion based on my national meta and experiences: That said, this isn’t just going to be about the Tier List and meta – we’ll also be reflecting a bit on these concepts and what they mean. Finally there’s the B- Tier. These factions need help badly and hopefully will get it in the next competitive dataslate. This means the logical thing to do is sit this model on an objective ASAP, performing mission actions/plinking away with her autopistol, and generating three Faith points a turn. Novitiate Exactor Your standard trainee Battle Sister that you could fill your team with if you wanted (but let’s face it you don’t), you choose between an autopistol and novitiate blade or an autogun and gun butt. Autoguns are 2/3 damage, so unless you are using ploys they’re doing lasgun damage, reasonable against guard equivalents but just scratching the paintwork on marine level enemies. Gun butts do the standard butt damage of 2/3 on three dice hitting on 4+, but Novitiate Blades are better than Astartes chainswords on 4 dice, 3+ to hit and 4/5 damage with Balanced. So that’s a reroll baked into the weapon. Finally, it’s fair to say grenades have become very prevalent across the killzones. The Indirect special rule is incredibly useful, and while we are happy with how grenades work thematically and mechanically, their efficiency and prevalence is noticeable. We’ve therefore used the same change we made to the Kommando’s dynamite in the previous Balance Dataslate (maximum of one), applying it to each offensive grenade in the game. We feel this change will have a significant impact on Pathfinders, Novitiates , Wyrmblade and Veteran Guardsmen , in particular, trimming their potential slightly. Familiarise yourself with how they work, maximise how many you generate by including the Pronatus and carefully selecting your equipment, and have your key combos ready.Acts of Faith – at a minimum this gives you three more command rerolls a turn, but there are more expensive acts where you can convert failures into successes or successes into criticals that let you change your dice at key moments of the game to make sure a target dies or a key model stays alive. You know’em you love’em folks. Always strong choices on a team that has no other Indirect options. I would not recommend taking both, but almost always an auto-include of one depending on your opponent’s team composition. B During that activation, a friendly NOVITIATE operative with the Combat specialism incapacitated an enemy operative in a combat. As has become the pattern for these boxes, there’s two Kill Teams in the box, plus Codex: Nachmund detailing the new rules for playing them.
