With decent perfumes being pretty pricey, I’m often on the hunt for a good dupe so was keen to try Superdrug’s Layering Lab range. Plenty of different brands have diffusers on offer, and some are a lot pricier than others. It begs the question, are the expensive ones worth the price, or are cheaper alternatives the way forward? This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I like a stronger perfume for an evening scent. Aldi have done a good job in trying to replicate the smell though, and I think if you haven't worn the Jo Malone version before, you'd be impressed with the dupe. Rating: 1/5 Aldi's Hotel Collection No. 14 Velvety Rose Eau De Parfum Dupe for: Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud

While the price difference is certainly appealing, could Aldi's own perfumes hold a candle to the popular brand? And with so many to choose from on the shelves of your local Boots, Superdrug and supermarkets, where do you even start?

With that in mind, we decided to put a range of perfume dupes, said to be similar to high street and designer favourites to the test, to see how they held up. Here's the results: Layering Lab Blossom Body Mist Dupe for: Thierry Mugler’s Alien There’s a host of fragrances to choose from in the lineup, each an apparent dupe of a high end product. I love Superdug’s own brand products as they’re so affordable, and each item is cruelty free. Isoeugenol,Eugenol, Methyl Cedryl Ether, Reaction Mass Of 1-[(1s*,6s*)-2, 2, 6-trimethylcyclohex-3-en-1-yl)But-2-en-1-one.

Where to buy: Blossom can be bought online from Superdrug. You can buy Thierry Mugler’s Alien from Boots. The supermarket chain also has a range of perfumes, which look and smell strangely familiar. Aldi's 'Hotel Collection' perfumes have a similar vibe to the Jo Malone fragrance range, but come in at a tiny fraction of the price of course. How can you be sure they’re actually similar scents to the original? Do they last as long or smell as strong as you’d like? I opted for Superdrug’s Layering Lab Body Mist in the scent Paradise, which is meant to be a dupe of Paco Rabanne’s popular fragrance Olympea.I couldn’t get my hands on the eau de toilette, but I did get the body mist - and it didn’t disappoint. Blossom is just as floral and feels just as luxurious as Alien, but certainly doesn’t last as long. As fragrances go Jo Malone has got to be up there with one of the nation's favourites. I for one am a huge fan of their perfumes, candles, diffusers and well just about anything. Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond. Sign up to our daily newsletter here. READ NEXT: Whether you're looking for a different alternative to making your house smell nice, or you're just after a new diffuser, we've rounded up three different ones from three very different brands. From pricier places like Jo Malone, to Aldi offering affordable dupes, we've done some research on the best diffusers out there to help your house smell fresh in no time.

The sensual scent of Lacura Lady Pour Femme boasts dark notes of sandalwood and tonka bean that complement undertones of orange blossom and Bulgarian rose. Escentric Molecules perfume dupe Aldi Atom Is there anything more comforting than the scent of your favourite perfume? A decent dupe of it, maybe. I absolutely love Jo Malone products, but lets be honest, they can be so expensive. I've had this particular diffuser for about six months now, and it's only just starting to run out - which is pretty impressive to say the least. I headed to my local Aldi and was delighted to see all but a few bottles on the shelf, while there was a few different scents to choose from, I grabbed myself a pomegranate noir as that is the Jo Malone scent I am most familiar with so I felt it would be the best one to compare accurately. Here's how I found it.

Jo Malone's Velvet Rose & Oud has been my go-to evening perfume for the last few years, so when I first came across Aldi's Hotel Collection No. 14 Velvety Rose, I didn't quite know how to feel.

The first thing I noticed was the smell as soon as I took the lid off before I'd even sprayed the product. Straight away it smelt very familiar, so this was a positive first impression. I don’t think I’m quite ready to abandon Alien, but Superdrug’s Blossom certainly makes a decent stand in. Plus I've been buying the Jo Malone candle and handwash dupes for a while now and I've been pretty impressed. The Hotel Collection Lime, Basil & Mandarin hand soap is a fairly good likeness to the original scent.

YSL perfume dupes

My go-to perfume is Thierry Mugler’s Alien and has been for the last few years. It’s rare that I’ll deviate from it, but I recently came across a good dupe that’s useful on the days I don’t fancy wearing my good perfume. When I first opened the diffuser the red roses scent was unleashed straight away, it wasn't too strong and had an amazing fresh smell to it. You often come across scents that claim to smell a certain way and don't at all, but this diffuser smelt just like fresh flowers, a smell I definitely want in my home. Lacura E1 Exclusive Only = Dior Miss Dior OR Carolina Herrera 212 VIP Rosé (mixed opinions on this one) Unscrew the collar, remove the bottle disc and replace the collar. Insert the reeds through the collar and immerse in the oil. Turn the reeds after 6-8 hours and the fragrance will fully bloom within 36 hours. Keep product upright in a secure place.
