About this deal

We first meet Aisling as she’s attending a wedding with her boyfriend John, from a neighbouring rival village, and wistfully wondering when it’ll be her turn to get hitched and build a “McMansion” on the bit of land her dad has set aside for her. Authors Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen created 'Aisling' when they were living in a flat share in Stoneybatter 10 years ago, and said the character was inspired by a 'very particular type' of Irish girl.

Which why now is NOT the time for a delicious new man to show up, her best friend to demand the hen do of the century and a surprise celebrity appearance . . . Fun, entertaining and, at times, a bit emotional, Oh My God, What a Complete Aisling is a fast-paced, funny read which I really didn't want to put down! That rare, precious thing: a fictional character you care about like a friend. It's a joy to spend time with Aisling again' LISA McGEE, creator of DERRY GIRLS When a week in Tenerife with John doesn’t end with the expected engagement, Aisling calls a halt to things, and soon she has surprised herself and everyone else by agreeing to move into a three-bed in Portobello with stylish Sadhbh from HR and her friend, the mysterious Elaine. Newly single and relocated to the big city, life is about to change utterly for this wonderful, strong, surprising and funny girl, who just happens to be a complete Aisling. Emer McLysaght on her comfort reads, favourite Irish author and the toughest part of writing OMGWACA". VIP Magazine. 14 December 2020.Daddy puts down his cup and reaches for a pink wafer. “Far-fetched? After going out for seven years? Sure, Denise and Liam got engaged two years ago and they met well after you two.” The word 'Aisling' seems to be a term originally coined in an Irish Facebook group set up by Emer and Sarah, which has amassed many members who discuss the things they've noticed and observed about a certain type of Irish girl, known as an 'Aisling'. I didn't know this before I read the novel, so it's not essential information, but I found it interesting that Aisling is a (seemingly fond, not cruel) term for a certain type of girl - and what an amusing character this novel's Aisling is! The hotly anticipated second book in the Aisling trilogy, The Importance of Being Aisling, is set for release on September 20th. The women I am having brunch with (brunch is a "notions" meal observed by notions Dublin types, and Aisling would strongly favour a sandwich with chips on the side) tell stories of Aislings they know or work with, or tell stories about themselves in an attempt to prove they are "actually a complete Aisling really". Sarah said: “It was very hard to see Emer feeling the way she did and she ended up becoming an inpatient in a hospital and that was tough but we always said when we started this that our friendship was more important than the project and the Aisling project has been amazing and changed our lives, but our friendship is the most important thing.”

And the authors teased that the final book has been ramped up for a big finale, with saucy sections that had their publishers pulses racing. Don’t change that, the second half is just after starting,” he grumbles, pushing himself up in the chair and fixing his glasses. “How did that bloody cat get in?” I'm not Irish, never even been to Ireland so my entire experience of Irish families is based on reading Marian Keyes. This reminded me of her stories, with the family and the humour particularly, but the bite of bittersweet also reminded me of her books. Here she is … Aisling Ever After, the fifth and final book in the series, is out on August 31st,” Sarah enthused. So weit, so gut. READ MORE: Electric Picnic speculation rife that popular band could reunite for surprise appearance Without spoiling anything, the last line is so utterly and completely Aisling, it’s the perfect ending to the series and will be very satisfying for readers who have read all five books. Aisling goes out every Saturday night with her best friend Majella, who is a bit of a hames (she’s lost two phones already this year – Aisling has never lost a phone).
