This may not always be the case, so it's always a good idea to look at the markings on the junction box or test the polarity with a digital voltmeter. You obviously can't connect two male connectors or two female connectors together, so we use the multibranch connectors to accomplish that. I don't want to use a polarity adapter at the hub to switch, too complicated and another failure point. SAE make a lot of sense to me if you keep them clean and put up daily, and my guess is a bit of vinegar will help dissolve salt or scale buildup from being outside.

In this case, you will want to cut the extender cable at a spot that allows both cut ends to reach the combiner box with a little slack to work with. With this high-quality photovoltaic MC4 (standard4) connector set (male / female), the solar connector cables between the module and the controller can be set up as required. When we increase current without increasing voltage there is a very good chance we will need a larger wire to avoid voltage drop from the parallel connection to the destination. Comes with reverse polarity adaptor - please ensure that the positive and negative from the panel match with the connectors as often the MC4 connectors in particular will be reversed. You need to keep the polarities straight with the SAEs but other than that I find them excellent, simple and have had no problems at all. That way you can use less expensive wiring (such as THHN rated insulation) inside the electrical conduit to cover greater distances at substantially less cost than the MC4 cables. And even with fridge, radio, plotters, autopilot and occasional radar it seems that these panels are keeping up with my usage. Let's say that the total length of wire needed to go from the two modules to your electrical equipment is 20 feet.

The two 170W flexible panels fit well on my Bimini and now I generally don't bother hooking up to shore power. Just like an extension cord has a male plug on one end and a female plug on the other, an MC4 extension cable has a male connector on one end and a female connector on the opposite end. The second was 3x 410Watt fixed frame panels, with all the charge controllers, circuit breakers and accessories needed.Over the course of a year, it will get charged much more at home where I can always get max charging. I've also read that energy loss is less a function of the connectors and more about distance and gauge of wire. The other consideration is the gradual loosening up of the pinch action as they are connected and disconnected repeatedly. MC4s seem to be used more on heavier gage wire (lower resistance) than SAE so if you have a long run in dusty or morning dew/rain wet area out over a few days, so the advantage is to MC4. I did add some stiffener material to the back of the panels and attached the panels with zippers and they have survived a few 30 knot days and one night with winds gusting well over 55 knots.

Do you have one or more high-performance solar modules and would you like to connect them to your solar controller as easily as possible? For the record, I switched everything over to SAE connectors to avoid the bad connections from "cigarette lighter" type plugs which suck. Solar connector cable, providing with quick and easy connect or disconnect for your RV solar panel by this sae adapter cable and simple plug removal without any additional instruments, compatible with mc4 connector cable. Remember that the two solar modules that you've already connected together have one positive lead with a male MC4 connector and one female lead with a female MC4 connector.

Since it is a portable system I intend to babysit it anytime it is in use and much prefer a small, one time, added cost to have the faster charging panels. Supplied as a 10m length complete with male and female solar connectors terminated on the cable ends.

Our SVB experts explain how to use solar energy on your boat and help you find the right system for your vessel.

Take a look at the first module and you'll notice that it has two wires extending from the junction box.
