Description

In this captivating young adult edition of her award-winning number one New York Times best seller, Laura Hillenbrand tells the story of a former Olympian's courage, cunning, and fortitude following his plane crash in enemy territory. Surrounded by the most notorious, dangerous and unpredictable inmates, you will quickly learn that the only means of escape will be from solving hidden puzzles using the code wheel left behind by the renowned criminal mastermind Robert Stroud the famous Birdman of Alcatraz. I recommend this book for 8-12 because it was a very interesting book that I think almost everyone would like.

More than a tale of prison break, Escape from Alcatraz is a scathing indictment of a penal system that strives for dehumanization, rather than rehabilitation, of its prisoners. The book says that on the night of the escape, one of the men had trouble and did not get to escape. With the author providing all of these literary elements, the reader is able to picture this story well and it grabs your attention instantly which makes this book very good. The first modern comic books to be published in the US, Famous Funnies and Popular Comics, came out in 1934, the same year the Bureau of Prisons opened USP Alcatraz Island and shipped Chicago crime czar Al Capone cross-country from the federal penitentiary at Atlanta to take up residence in one of its cells. At the end, however, the reader is suddenly asked to remember certain details with no indication as to how long ago these were or the best way to check back to find them. Deeply ashamed of his nation's leaders, 15-year-old Knud Pedersen resolved with his brother and a handful of schoolmates to take action against the Nazis if the adults would not. Together, they wrote the second title in this series, A Sherlock Holmes Escape Book: The Adventure of the British Museum (Ammonite Press, 2020). Photographs that help the reader visualize parts of the prison and parts of the plan are also included. I am reminded of one of the core messages of A Clockwork Orange which left me constantly asking, when, if ever, is it justified to remove or deprive an individual’s humanity?

On a May afternoon in 1943, an American military plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood.Framed as a traitor and a murderer and sent to Alcatraz as a result, you must escape the forbidding, top-security jail, recover the lost evidence and stop the pollution and land sale before it’s too late. Before we get to the escape, we get a history of the prison and its various inmates and the exciting events which occasionally occurred. It tells the story of the Rock's transition from a Spanish fort to a maximum-security penitentiary, of life on The Rock, and of fourteen ingenious escape attempts by the prisoners.

Escape from Alcatraz is about the escape of prisoners from the horrible jail and island of Alcatraz. Campbell Bruce chronicles in spellbinding detail the Rock's transition from a Spanish fort to the maximum-security penitentiary. If you want to learn more about Morris, West and Angling read Jolene Babyak's book "Breaking the Rock". He has written dozens of books on many topics, and one of his books was read by an astronaut on the International Space Station for kids on Earth to watch. The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that enhances access, recreation and education programs in the Golden Gate National Parks, including Muir Woods, Crissy Field and Alcatraz.
